The Senior Director, Strategic Sourcing for PSS World Medical is responsible for optimizing total buy-side margins for both PSS and GSMS, coordinating activities across the three major sources of buy-side margin:
. Inventory Pick-Up (including investment buying) . Secondary Sourcing . Vendor Incentives
This position is directly responsible for managing daily activities of the secondary source buying, analysis, quality control, compliance and administrative organization.
This position is responsible for developing new capabilities to expand buy-side margins, including 1) direct solicitation of deals and buy-ins every quarter from our vendors, 2) accomplish annual SSG profit expectation 3) lead and grow the Strategic Sourcing team 4) Assure compliance with manufacturer rebate terms for strategically sourced product.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree is required, plus at least ten years management experience in warehouse, distribution and/or purchasing operations. Experience managing a full P&L is strongly preferred, as is a track record of success in highly competitive, entrepreneurial, "deal-intensive" environments.
PREFERRED OFFICE/MACHINE EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE:
Proficient with personal computers and software applications, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Prior experience with MRP, ERP, or DRP systems strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
. Using a variety of alternate sources, create and lead the domestic strategic purchasing program, develop and execute activity-based costing RFP's, and supervise pricing and volume negotiations. . Using primary sources and manufacturers, anticipate, track, and determine when to conduct investment buy-ins, determining the product mix and quantity based on a host of variables. . Determine how to best maximize margin opportunity given a variety of incentive structures and investment buying options versus the availability, opportunity, and discount from secondary suppliers. . Create and supervise the implementation of a selling and trading business based on arbitrage opportunities. . Establish criteria and then visit, analyze, select, audit and define the roles of appropriate secondary suppliers for the sourcing program. . Serve as a liaison, leveraging indirect authority, to bridge the SSG, Supplier Management, Marketing, CSS, Compliance, Global Sourcing, Operations, Finance, and Purchasing departments to assure total buy-side margins are optimized. . Manage company-wide secondary product inventory levels (including slow move and dead stock), cash flow impacts and supplier fill rates. . Develop, track, and implement metrics and reporting to ensure legal, ethical, contractual, and regulatory compliance. . Understand and maximize the utility of the monthly ORFP process, standing purchase orders, buy-in deals, and ranking purchase orders. . Leverage CSS and Purchasing advancements in systems and procedures into the SSG processes. . Identify sourcing risks and establish policies to mitigate risks. . Understand and comply with Florida laws and regulations involving the purchasing and warehousing of pharmaceutical products. . Be cognizant of product nuances, Rx and OTC categorizations, medical devices, hazmats, domestic vs. international packaging, dating, shipping, and storage conditions. . Collaborate with Operations to maximize branch receiving productivity for all buy side margin-driven purchases. . Implement and conduct quality assurance compliance checks on products. . Create then ensure that Quality Control processes are developed, implemented and maintained to improve efficiency and prevent substandard inventory from entering PSS/WM distribution channels. . Serve as the primary trainer and trainer coordinator for the SSG. . Manage SSG Accounts Payable and insure discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner. . Determine secondary supplier terms and conditions, payment terms, and cash discount percentages. . Communicate effectively with suppliers, branches, company executives, freight reps, and employees. . Capture, analyze, and document highly complex business requirements and business processes. . With minimal guidance, develop, write, and communicate standard operating procedures, documentation, presentations, and business process changes having a high level of complexity. . Establish and administer employee reward-based spiffs, recognition programs, and bonus criteria. . With passion and charisma, serve as cultural leader and team builder. . Must maintain a good attendance record.
