Role Summary/Purpose Responsible for the design of electrical / mechanical components within the power generation design group for aerospace and industrial applications. Will be assigned to support Integrated Product Development Team. The senior Designer is responsible for completing on time designs through final qualification and release. Senior designers will be responsible for working directly with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure producibility and must result in the most cost effective design concept.
Essential Responsibilities
* Be responsible for concept, design, and checking of product designs for electrical / mechanical applications

* Interpret verbal or written instructions received; incorporate customer and individual specifications into design documentation, with the ability to work with minimal or no direction

* Perform analytical calculations necessary for component design (tolerance stack-ups, fits, torque requirements, etc.)

* Ensure design features will conform to defined fits and tolerances to meet applicable stresses and packaging requirements

* Prepare drawings using Unigraphics computer aided design (CAD) system

* Oversee component assembly and evaluate results

* Define materials for procurement including catalogue parts, raw stock, and special compounds and other miscellaneous materials

* Disposition discrepant material purchased or manufactured during development process

* Work closely with the manufacturing engineer to ensure that design intent is reflected in manufacturing process utilized

* Identify design failures; communicate these to engineer with recommendations for corrections

* Organize and maintain project specific records and documentation

* Keep pertinent data on drawings, schematics, analytical calculations, etc.

* Maintain file of engineering designs / drawings

* Lead drawing reviews and participates in design reviews as required
Qualifications/Requirements
* Associate's Degree in a Technical discipline OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in a Technical field

* Minimum of 7 years of Design experience in related product technology
Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

* History of increasing responsibility and accomplishment

* Proficient in the use of office software including Microsoft (MS) Word and Excel

* Ability to work across multiple product teams

* One position is for mechanical design using 2D and 3D Unigraphics solid modeling and drafting software

* Knowledgeable of drawing preparation practices including the application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5.

* Must be able to perform and document tolerance stack ups

* One position is for electrical design using PADS layout software

* Experience with multi-layer PCB layouts

* Experience with surface mount digital board design
