Pharmacy Resident - Jacksonville, FLCoram's PGY1 Pharmacy Residency ProgramUnder the supervision of the pharmacy manager and/or pharmacy supervisor, performs within the scope of practice for a state registered pharmacy intern until such time they are bestowed state registration as a licensed pharmacist. As a state Registered Pharmacist the Resident shall perform all duties necessary to provide for the efficient daily clinical operation of the pharmacy, providing quality products and services to infusion therapy patients.
· Ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, policies and procedures, and accrediting body standards.
· Communicates effectively and politely with patients and other members of the healthcare team within the resident's scope of practice. Prior to licensure as a Registered Pharmacist the Resident will abide by all state Pharmacy Intern regulations.
· Interprets and evaluates prescription orders to assure therapeutic appropriateness, cost effectiveness, accuracy and completeness.
· Accurately maintains all legally required records.
· Provides technical and clinical information and communicates results of monitoring activities to patients, nurses, and physicians as required and within the scope of current state regulations for Registered Pharmacy Intern or Registered Pharmacist once licensed, regarding the contents, utilization, therapeutic actions, possible adverse reactions or interactions of drugs.
· Participates in educating pharmacy students and technician students assigned to the branch
· Provides clinical continuing education and community presentations after approved by the Coram CE Department.
· Initiates, reviews, and updates all Coram required documentation per Policy and Procedures (P&P) and within the scope of practice of current state registration as a Pharmacy Intern or Registered Pharmacist.
· As a Registered Pharmacist performs compounding checks and double checks per P&P.
· Follows established procedures for drug and supply procurement and maintains appropriate inventory levels of preferred product selection of drugs, solutions, and supplies.
· Adheres to stability and compatibility guidelines and quality control procedures.
· Performs accurate computer order-entry, labeling, and dispensing when applicable in compliance with state regulations for a Pharmacy Intern then as a Registered Pharmacist.
· Participates in on-call rotations when a state Registered Pharmacist.
· Participates in Performance Improvement activities, educational programs, and departmental/branch meetings.
· Participates with all nurses, dieticians, and physicians in all clinical activities as required and allowed by state Board regulations.
· Maintains the pharmacy environment and compounding room in an orderly manner.
· Select items in processing patient orders and warehouse transfers.
· Type prescription labels accurately, efficiently and with all information required by law.
· Compounds parenteral solutions aseptically, efficiently and in a timely fashion.
· Obtains a final check by the pharmacist in compounding and filling prescriptions as a graduate pharmacy intern. Once Pharmacy Resident receives licensure employee abides by state regulations for Pharmacists.
· Initiates patient dispensing records, packing slips and statements.
· Obtains laboratory results as directed.
· Obtains patient medication histories as directed.
· Restocks the compounding room on an as needed basis.
· Checks for drug outdates when requested.
· Assists in performing quarterly physical inventory.
· Actively participates in the residency plan as outlined by Residency Program Director and Residency Board.
· Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications: - As required per state(s) practice law.
- Current pharmacy intern registration permit required upon hire and must obtain licensure as a Registered Pharmacist within two attempts.
- Should be familiar with a variety of word-processing, data base and spreadsheet programs and have the ability to learn customized company software.
- State pharmacy intern permit required upon hire and licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the state currently practicing as a pharmacy resident within two attempts.
